Grumpy's Take
Straight talk, no hype
- Fed day: use the wait. The statement lands at 2:00 PM ET and Warsh talks at 2:30. A hold at 3.75–4.00% is baked in; the move comes from what he says about December (~84% priced for a hike). Spend the morning sorting, weighing and counting what you have, and don't lock in a big deal at 1:55.
- Why quotes look worse today. When the market can jump $50 in a minute, dealers can't hedge cleanly, so they widen the gap between what they pay and what they charge. Fed today and PCE tomorrow means wider spreads both days. Ask for the buy and sell number so you see the gap.
- Dip or wait? Brent near $111 and 3.7% CPI keep hike risk alive, and a Reuters survey just cut 2026 gold forecasts again. Nobody rings a bell at the bottom. If you want to add, split it: some now, the rest after Thursday's PCE.
- Today's example: with silver at $53.64, a $10 face roll of 90% quarters holds about $388 of silver ($38.80 per $1 face). Every $1 move in silver changes that roll by about $7.23.
- Platinum is the only green metal (+0.39% to $1,540). One green day on Fed morning is noise, not a signal. Don't chase it.
