Grumpy's Take
Weekend watch, no hype
- Saturday quotes come with padding. Spot is frozen until futures reopen Sunday evening, and a dealer can't hedge what they buy today. After a 6% drop, expect a lower weekend bid. If you're not in a hurry, Monday's number will be cleaner.
- This was forced selling, not a verdict on silver. When tech stocks crash, people sell what they can to cover margin calls, and metals are easy to sell. Watch how stocks open Monday. If the selloff keeps going, metals may get dragged again.
- Bought near the top? Don't let the chart decide. Silver gave back its whole run above $120. Your coins weigh the same as they did in January. Sell because you need the cash or the plan changed, not because Friday hurt.
- Vaults are full, so shop the premium. London holds the most silver in almost four years. That's not a shortage market. If a seller is still charging scarcity premiums, find another seller.
- Cheap entry: a roll of war nickels. 40 nickels hold about 2.25 oz of silver, roughly $111 in metal today. Check the big mintmark over Monticello (1942 to 1945) before you pay silver money for one.
