Grumpy's Take
Big green morning: keep your head
- This rally is mostly about the dollar. Metals are priced in dollars. When the dollar drops to a five-week low, it takes more of them to buy an ounce. Nothing changed about the coins in your safe overnight. The yardstick got shorter.
- A roll of quarters made $17 while you slept. A $10 face roll of 90% quarters holds 7.234 oz. That was $358.52 in silver at yesterday morning's spot and $375.59 now. Run your own stack the same way before you call anybody.
- Watch both sides of the counter. On a fast morning some dealers move their sell price up before their buy price catches up. Ask for the bid and the ask on the same coin. If only one side moved, you just learned how that shop works.
- Don't buy a trend off one candle. Silver is still down about 28% this year per CNBC, and the market still expects a Fed hike in December. One big day after an election doesn't erase that. Friday's jobs number will tell you more than today's headlines.
